Hello and welcome

Therapy isn’t usually something people Google on a good day. More often, it comes after too many sleepless nights, too many “I should be able to handle this” thoughts, or maybe after realizing that your coping strategy of scrolling TikTok until 2 a.m. isn’t quite doing the trick. If that sounds familiar — you’re in the right place.

I’m Melanie, a Registered Clinical Counsellor in Surrey, BC. I offer support for anxiety, trauma, OCD, depression, and the general overwhelm of being human. In my practice, I use evidence-based approaches like CBT, ERP (a powerful tool for OCD), mindfulness, and EMDR therapy in South Surrey to help people feel more grounded, calm, and connected. And yes, counselling is serious work — but it doesn’t have to be all serious, all the time. Sometimes a little humour and lightness can make hard conversations feel easier.

This blog is an extension of that same spirit. Here you’ll find reflections, tools, and the occasional therapist truth bomb (like the fact that yes, your therapist sometimes also forgets what they walked into a room for). Topics I’ll be exploring include:

  • OCD and intrusive thoughts — what they are, why your brain gets stuck on them, and how ERP helps.

  • Trauma and EMDR therapy — supporting the nervous system and finding steadiness again.

  • Anxiety and stress — practical strategies for calming your body when your brain insists everything is on fire.

  • Mindfulness and self-compassion — no, not just breathing at a candle, but practices that actually help.

  • Life transitions and relationships — because humans are complicated, and so are the connections we care about most.

While these posts aren’t a substitute for counselling, I hope that they leave you feeling informed, supported, and maybe even a little less weighed down.

If you’re considering therapy, know this: you don’t have to do it all by yourself (none of us are meant to). Healing is about creating space for calm and clarity, and taking steady steps toward a life that feels more grounded — with support along the way.

Thanks for stopping by. I look forward to sharing more with you soon.

— Melanie
